Gothenburg University

Moving to Gothenburg, Sweden has been one of the best choices I have made in my life. In the fall of 2017, I applied through the University of Albany for one semester at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. After being there for one week, I was in love with where I was. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden, but still manages to feel cozy and intimate. The people were so kind and easy going and I had made friends from countries all over the world. I got to experience a culture and a way of living that was completely new to me. Overwhelmed and happy, I decided to stay for another semester. Staying for a full academic year allowed me to learn some Swedish, make more friends, and take courses that were taught in a perspective I have never been taught from before. Staying the whole academic year also allowed me to network in the school of global studies where I was taking courses and currently in the Spring of 2019, I am back in Sweden performing research for the school of Global Studies and also taking classes. I will be graduating on time in May 2019 and am looking forward to continuing my education at the University of Gothenburg in the Master’s program for Global Studies this fall. I could never have done this without so much support and guidance with Jay from the University of Albany, my academic advisors at Manhattan College, as well as the kind and helpful staff at the University of Gothenburg. Thanks to them I have been able to learn a new language, meet new people, and discover where I want to be.
