Hong Kong Baptist University is an urban campus located along many different transportation routes, giving you easy access to the rest of the city. The modern campus is home to numerous sports facilities, eateries and student organizations. These are all great places to engage with the friendly and lively student population.

General Education Information for UAlbany Students
Credits earned on this program will automatically satisfy the International Perspectives requirement. Three credits of foreign language study will satisfy the Foreign Language requirement. No additional approval is required for you to earn these general elective credits.
Major/Minor Information for UAlbany Students
Courses may also satisfy major and minor requirements, upon approval by the department.
All courses taken abroad count towards UAlbany General Elective credits. Credits and grades will appear on your UAlbany transcript. You may file a request to have additional courses approved for equivalency as necessary.
You will be housed in the University’s Undergraduate Halls on the Baptist University Road Campus (BURC). The Undergraduate Halls are composed of the South Tower and the North Tower, providing around 800 rooms. Majority of the rooms are double occupancy and air-conditioned (separately controlled in each room). Your room will include a bed, closet, desk, shelf, chair, one LAN point and wifi connected to the University’s network system.
Linens (sheets, pillows, towels, etc.) are your responsibility. You can bring your own or buy them in Hong Kong. Every two rooms share a common restroom and shower facility. Other facilities include a common lounge (with a small pantry & kitchenette) on each floor, a music/TV room, a multi-purpose room, table tennis room, computer room, gym room, study room, and laundry area.
You may indicate your preference to stay on a single-gender floor or a co-ed floor. Your preference will be considered, but is subject to availability.
There is no meal plan for this program. You may choose to purchase meals in the cafeteria, cook, or eat out at local restaurants.

Remember to speak with the Office of Financial Aid at your home campus to determine how your aid package could apply towards your program abroad.
Juniors, seniors, and exceptional sophomores in all majors with at least 2.5 GPA are eligible. HKBU has a very strict GPA requirement, and will not make exceptions.
If you are a graduate student, you are welcome to apply.
There is no language requirement, and no previous knowledge of Chinese is necessary.
University-arranged activities will be hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University’s International Office throughout the year. The Office of Student Affairs at HKBU will also host events. You may also enjoy tourist attractions and events off campus, on your own.
Student Clubs and Organizations
There are several student organizations you can join at HKBU, and some of these organizations arrange field trips. Additional information will be provided at your on-site orientation at HKBU.
Most financial aid and academic awards will apply to semester programs.
External scholarships, listed on our website, are a good way to partially fund your study abroad experience. In addition, the Center for International Education and Global Strategy offers two scholarship programs for UAlbany students studying abroad on UAlbany or 4-year SUNY programs.

About the City
Hong Kong is an autonomous territory in southeastern China, located in the South China Sea. With its “east meets west” feel, it is truly a unique location. Hong Kong also has one of the most sophisticated public transit systems in the world, so exploring the territory is very convenient.
A valid passport is required to participate in this program. If you are a U.S. citizen who will be in Hong Kong for longer than 90 days, you are required to obtain a student visa to enter Hong Kong. Hong Kong Baptist University’s International Office will coordinate with the Hong Kong Immigration Department (IMMD) on your behalf, so you do not need to visit the Chinese consulate to apply for your visa. More information regarding the visa application process is available upon acceptance to the program.

About the Program
In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong as a post-secondary college committed to the provision of whole person education. In 1983, Hong Kong Baptist College became a fully-funded public tertiary institution. It gained university status in 1994 and was renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
Today HKBU encompasses eight Faculties/Schools offering a range of undergraduate programs, associate degree and higher diploma programs as well as postgraduate programs and research postgraduate programs leading to the award of master and doctoral degrees. HKBU prides itself on its dual focus on teaching and research and encourages service to society among its staff and students. Over the years, HKBU has remained committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person, and has gained a reputation as one of Asia’s finest institutions of higher learning.
The University at Albany’s exchange affiliation with Hong Kong Baptist University enables you to take regular university courses in English at the University while exploring Hong Kong, a cosmopolitan center with an “east meets west” feel.
Upon acceptance to the program, you will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation. During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet other program participants, discuss in-depth the details of your program, and prepare of the overall education abroad experience. The fall semester pre-departure orientation will be conducted the Saturday before the end of Spring UAlbany classes and in late November/early December for the spring term abroad.
Upon arrival at Hong Kong Baptist University, you will attend a mandatory program orientation. This is an important and informative set of sessions organized by International Office of your host university.
UAlbany’s Office of Education Abroad staff assists you during the application process, in your preparation to travel abroad, and on-site if necessary.
